Many low priced Ryanair flights are available from Stansted to Bari (30 minutes away) and Brindisi (60 minutes).

See www.ryanair.com  (midweek to midweek flights often lower priced than weekends.) There are various car rental companies at both airports - Hertz are often the cheapest but it is worth shopping around.
